A total snoozefest.

I failed to see why we should care for Holland at all. He neglects his wife, all but abandons his son, and becomes dangerously close to an affair with one of his students. AND not to mention the lackluster Opus itself! It was a nonsensical, meandering mess! Elephant in the room; This movie is boring beyond belief. Even with all of the above, there is not nearly enough conflict or interesting charcters to keep the viewer's attention. 135 minute sleeping pill.

I think the thing is that we see that what Holland goes through as a teacher is more realistic than other teachers in this genre. He teaches for 30 years, not just one, and doesn't turn everyone into geniuses. I think the problem is you. What's a great film for you-the stupid Saw franchise?

Yes, and it meandered through different musicians - Beethoven, Gerswhin, et. al., in a completely distracting "plagiaristic" attempt at classicism-cum-contemporary. A borrowed, uninspired pseudo-opus. I'm surprised that Kamen didn't write something original. Otoh, sometimes directors instruct their film composers to write music which the director, not the composer, thinks is best for the story. I like the rest of the score, but the central theme, musically and dramatically, simply fails.
