to date the only decent video game movie

what was so great about this movie is that while it contained all the character from the first Mortal Kombat game and the game's basic plot, it largely expanded on them and gave them distinct personalities not evident in the game. it also greatly expanded on the story line and the basic plot is essentially ENTER THE DRAGON set in the MK Universe, so even though it is a rip off, at least they rip off a classic legendary martial arts movie.

you don't need to be familiar with the games to enjoy this movie as it works as a self-contained enjoyable movie. while the sequel sucked, this is to date the only decent movie I have ever seen based on a video game.

I would never have imagined back then that this one (which I hated when it came out because it wasn't nearly as violent as I wanted it to be) would have been BY FAR the best videogame adaptation ever.

Now that my anger has faded away I can watch it anytime and enjoy it for what it is.

I saw MK on opening night at a midnight show. At the time my friends and I were all playing mk2 daily. Could not have loved MK more.

That said we all thought it was dumb as *beep*. Should have been rated R and a hardcore splatterfest. Instead we got a kids movie, just as bad as the SMB movie. MK could have been great. What they gave us is the most disappointing video game movie off all time.
