On Starz Play!

Can't believe it. This movie is not available on DVD in the U.S., but Netflix is offering it on demand right now with English subs! However, it's cropped to 1.33:1, so it's probably pan and scan. Hopefully this is a big step toward getting it right.

This version of "Les Miserables" (1995) is being shown THIS MON. NIGHT at 2am.,
Remember, that means that it will technically be TUES. Morning (April 28th) eastern time in the U.S. I am ALMOST positive that it will be shown in Wide-Screen format (2.35:1). Indiplex, as well as Retroplex are pretty consistent in showing films in original aspect ratio. The channels, as well as "Movieplex" are owned by the same company who owns Encore, although their programing styles are very different. I had planned to record "Les Miserables" last week when it was scheduled to play on "Retroplex", I believe. Unfortunately, it slipped my mind to program the DVR, and only was reminded that night while going through channels and coming across this film. What made it especially dissapointing was that it was being shown in widescreen (2.35:1)!! It had been on for too long to record it and still catch the begining. It was also in French with English subtitles. I checked to see when it was next scheduled to air, and as my luck would have it, or so I thought, it was not scheduled to air again. That is why I'm pretty sure that it was on "Retroplex" or possibly "FLIX" . These films are constantly being moved around from one cable netrwork to another so, if you want to see this movie or any other that you missed and you have these channels, make sure to check around, as it will more often than not eventually be shown on one of the other channels. Oh, by the way, "Flix" is owned by "Showtime", so if you have "Showtime" you probably have "Flix". If you are lucky enough to catch a film that you really love on "Flix", I would be surprised if it isn't shown in it's original aspect ratio, original language, with subtitles and, believe it or not there will be NO channel logo in the corner of the screen, no ad's run during the credits for "what's on next", or previews that walk along the bottom of the screen (I hate that crap as much as commercials)!! Are you listening, "Fear.net"?? I'm sorry for ramblin', I hope that I have helped some fellow film lovers the chance to see some great films (even one, would be worth the time). I only pray that I havn't jinxed a good thing <fingers crossed> Good luck on seeing the French "Les Miserables" and that it is half as good as we are hoping!

I will write a follow-up post if I see this film scheduled again in the future, if anyone shows real interest in seening it. GOOD-LUCK- Gary (Michigan)

fluffhead34,

I just finished watching this film about 40 minutes ago. I stumbled upon it by chance an hour in, and was immediately drawn into the film. I enjoyed it so much, that I immediately had thoughts of purchasing a DVD for it. However, when I came here and read the threads about the lack of DVD's with subs, I was really dissapointed. It is just now starting to strike me that I was lucky to watch this film with the subs and that I might not have the opportunity down the road. If anyone knows if a DVD with subs is coming out or anything of that nature, please let me know.
