In my opinion this movie is one of the best. Upon the first viewing i thought it was just OK and cute, and as the more I thought about it I realized how great it was. It's realistic, beautiful scenery, sincere, cute, and has great morals.

shareI saw it on Turner Classic Movies as part of an "actor's pick" block they had going on. I don't remember the actress they had presenting the movies, but this was one of her picks. It aired at 1 in the morning or so, and despite the fact that I had to be at a work meeting at 8 that next morning (on a Saturday, no less), I stayed up to watch it as it was one of the few Studio Ghibli movies I hadn't seen. It's become one of my favorites, and I was glad I found it at such an affordable price a few years back.
In short: a great, very underrated movie.
Simply, one of the best animated films ever made. Ghibli is a master of animated films, and this one is no exception.
And this also has one of the most cute coubles ever.
One of the standout films from Studio Ghibli which I've seen. Nothing feels flawed as it had the capacity to entertain, mesmerise and provoke.
