Quemistry between Helena Bonham Carter and Woody Allen

I was talking with a friend of mine about Allen movies and he made the point that, aside from Diane Keaton, the actress best cast as a Woody Allen wife/girlfriend has been Helena Bonham Carter in this movie, and I think he is right. Allen tends to cast women way too beautiful for him (Louise Lasser, Tea Leoni, Charlize Theron, Elisabeth Shue) and the ones not that beautiful (Judy Davis, Dianne Wiest) doesn´t have that good chemistry.

What do you guys think?

I definitely agree!! There's something about Helena Bonham Carter in this film that really impressed me the way most other leading ladies haven't in most WA movies. I really believed the two of them as a couple.

Don't know about "quemistry", but this was indeed about the time when Stiffy's insistence on pairing himself as a romantic lead with young, beautiful actresses (Bonham Carter was definitely in the league with the ones mentioned in the OP - as was Mira Sorvino) started to become kind of narcissistically creepy. The guy hit 60 in 1995.

Yeah, but at the same time he played that character like no one else.

He tried recently to write a leading man for another actor, but almost no one comes really close to what he wants.

Maybe Owen Wilson ended up being the "best", but Owen Wilson was doing his own thing anyway.

Owen Wilson, I thought, was brilliant because he brought his own spin on the "classic Woody" character, which kinda freshened it up.

I have enjoyed others, though. Larry David was brilliant.
