she steals the film from the beginning to the end...her voice is so funny,,,her face,,her dialogues...EVERYTHING....she mas amazing and powerfull. I think that the oscar for best s. actrees was the perfect way to rekognize the entire film...(rachel w.-the constant gardiner,,,angelina jolie-girl,interrupted,,,kim basinger-l.a. confidential)...in my opinion,,mira has been the best woody's lady....in second place...diane keaton ..i guess !!!

Her performance was magnificent, I'll give her that. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that she isn't the most deserving nominee in the Supporting Actress category. In my opinion, Kate Winslet should have won the award for Sense and Sensibility.

As for Mira Sorvino....I dont know...she did a good job at making Linda likeable and stupid but she got annoying to me after awhile...

anyway, winslet was ROBBED at the oscars. Sorvino was very good as the ditzy nasal- voiced woman in the film, but Kate's performance was nothing short of perfect.
still, i'm guessing that was Mira's only chance to win an oscar, whereas Kate will have many more opportunities

i'd submit that mira sorvino's acting job in "mighty aphrodite" is even more substantial than winslet's (a favourite of mine) precisely because linda is so different - especially with that campy, nasal voice. her actual voice and persona reek of cool confidence. in this "play" (with allen's use of the greek chorus), she has to bring all that out of linda.

with her this film would have been possibly the worst thing ever. but she breathed life into it. she carried the entire thing in my opinion. woody had some good ideas, eg greek chorus, deus ex machina, but at the end of the day linda ash is not only great as a ditzy slag with a heart but she transforms into a reasonably wholesome mother/wife. i'd go as far as saying it was one of the best performances i've ever seen in a woody allen movie (tied with judy davis in husbands and wives)

I agree with the nay-sayers. Mira Sorvino STOLE that Oscar from the FAR more deserving Kate Winslet.
After Sorvino's first few lines, all I wanted to do was slap her character. She was SO ANNOYING! And Sorvino was better in Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion, hahaha (which isn't saying much).
But alas, her character DID make the movie less boring. =/
Sorvino was marvelous in this film, winning a richly deserved Best Supporting Actress oscar...Woody created a genuine movie star here.

Oh, people who think their morals/character have to line up with those of the characters on screen in order to deem the actors' performances worthwhile...How much you have to learn! I thought she did an amazing job. Yes, her voice is annoying, yes she's a stupid prostitute, but it was played with such realism and heart that I couldn't help but love it. Not to mention she's schmokin' hot.

She's really sexy in this. Which is weird because I don't like the porn star/hooker/dancer/whatever look she goes for at various points. But she's just overwhelmingly sexy and puts on a brilliant performance.

Gigantic, gorgeous and charming, Sorvino is PERFECT in this otherwise forgettable film.
As for Kate Winslet, she was good in Sense and Sensibility, but she did not elevate that film the way that Sorvino did Mighty Aphrodite.
