Good director, annoying actor

Woody Allen destroys every movie he acts in since he`s just so goddamned ANNOYING! And it`s a shame too, cause he`s a more than decent director. I`ve liked or even loved every movie he directed that he didn`t act in, and I find myself liking the ones he does act in to. Until he steps in with his bumbling, babbling, pathetic and irritating characters.
They`re always the same fools, always the same losers.

Mira Sorvino: 9/10
Movie without Allen: 8/10
Woody Allen (actor) 2/10
Sum "Mighty Aphrodite": 6/10

Couldn't agree more. I'm so glad he didn't act in Match Point, would have spoiled the entire movie!

So you would label "Celebrity" a better movie than say, "Annie Hall" or "Sleeper"? That seems odd, but I guess you are entitled to your opinion.

I partly agree. I think he was quite good when younger and would probably be good in the right part now. For me the problem is he kept playing the same role when he was too old and it just doesn't work - it often seems more creepy and pathetic rather that insightful and funny.
I'm not sure about him being a great director either. When he's not in a film the leading man seems to be coached in to doing an impression of Woody. I think it probably take a pretty strong and we'll established actor to resist that.
But having said that I find myself starting to like Woody Allan again after many years of avoiding his films - so either something has changed or I'm just getting so old his performance seems more acceptable now.

I'm the other way, I think his annoying, pedantic and babbling characters are hilarious, and for those reasons. He never stops talking and chattering, it's quite funny in a way. I always look forward to it and saw this movie for the first time this week! Don't know how I missed it.

I found my lost DVD of Take the Money and Run the other day, can't wait to see it again!

I agree with this, and even though I've seen this character 20 times on screen before, I enjoyed his character in Mighty Aphrodite.

Me, too. Allen is an underrated actor. He knows what he can do and he does it very, very well. He's never gotten enough credit as a performer, especially considering some of the nuances and little details he can pull off. Come for the funny, stay for the insight; this guy knows humanity and that's what I love about his movies, his writing, and his performances.
