Belladonna/Hand of Glory question

Hmmm what? I see other posts here but I still don't get it.

Why would Mrs Frawley's pills have this ingredient? Why would this ingridgent strengthen the demon in the machine or make it immune to the 'exorcism'. I don't get it?
