Wow, I'm the first to comment??
(some spoilers below)
I'm surprised there aren't ANY posts here about this film! I thought Michael Ontkean was chilling in this role, he plays a psycho very well. I couldn't stand Annette O'Toole here, she frequently overacts in ALL her films and this one is no exception. Pamela Reed did all right, but she actually underacted a bit.
The film showed a perspective one rarely sees in films: The perspective from a paroled rapist. Michael Ontkean's character doesn't seem to realize what he did was so wrong, until he begins to 'see' it from a different perspective thanks to therapy and his parole officer. The part that angered me big time was when the community poisoned his dog. That was a TERRIBLE thing to do!!! This poor dog was innocent, you don't hurt an animal to get back at a person! That made me actually hate the crowd.
A powerful film, a bit draggy in spots but it does keep your attention.
