Mallrats sequel?!

Smith has been talking about another mallrats. Not sure if it's a sequel or a TV show. All I know is it better be in Minnesota again! Hopefully at eden prairie mall again too!

Started as a movie, now planned to be a 10 episode, half hour show at the request of Universal. And different mall, it's planned to be filmed in Philly to take advantage of tax benefits. The first mall he chose couldn't wait any longer when he couldn't get production started last year, it was scheduled for demolition and got torn down. He had chosen a second mall in the area later last year that was preparing to redevelop large parts of the mall, but the hope was to begin filming in January. And at the time, Smith said the movie was going to involve a lot of damage to the mall in the movie, so I don't know if he'll have to find yet another location he can tear up (due to the mall he uses being empty and due to be torn down, or planning major remodels already), or if he'll achieve the effects some other way, or if he's dropped that whole plot when the movie was switched to a show.

No idea, haven't kept up with Kevin Smith in awhile, and just read about it yesterday. All I know is it started as a movie, and Universal (that still owns rights to the first movie and thus owns rights to any sequels) told him they wanted it to be a 10 ep series, he's got the story worked out and presented, and last I read was he's looking for a network (premium network obviously if on TV) or Netflix or Amazon for distribution. Last I know, he has all the original actors agreed to return, except that he's waiting to ask Affleck until they have filming details set (and I haven't read if Shannen Doherty is still gonna be able to do it due to either still being in treatment for or now recovering from cancer... I guess that depends on if she's up to it when they get into production).

That's too bad. The best part about watching the original film was looking back at the mall I used to hang out at. Was hoping he'd come back here again and use the new E.P. mall. Oh well though should still be good
