Who was the 'David' who almost won the part of Brodie?

On the DVD commentary, Smith mentions that an actor "David something" almost got the role of Brodie till Jason Lee auditioned. Does anyone have any idea who it could be? My best guess is the actor David Lascher who was in a bunch of teen comedy tv shows throughout the 90s like Hey Dude, Sabrina and Blossom.

My guess was David Arquette

I sort of thought so too but I would've thought that they would've of remembered him being that he was so popular in the mid to late 90s, they just refered to him as "David something". Also I just cant see Arquette playing Brodie, hes way too goofy. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Lascher but his screen presense is very cool and layed back, more fitting to the character of Brodie (minus the yelling). And if you think he wasn't famous enough for the part, Jeremy London had basically the same type of filmography at the time he was cast (a few tv shows here, some minor movies there).

Schwimmer maybe? They wanted him for one of the roles in chasing amy though I am nkt sure if he would have played the affleck part or the lee part
