Question about ending -- spoilers

I wasn't clear on whether Orky was actually dead and maybe revived by the spirit of the old indian, or was he only really sick and then revived?

Orky actually dies and his flesh is cut up and divided into portions to be eaten at the annual lake festival.

The point is, Orky either died and was brought back to life, or got very sick and was brought back to health. This question never bothered me, because it's not really central to the plot. I think of it that he was on the brink of death when the shaman guy brought him back to life. It doesn't really matter though; it's one of those things where it can be either way, depending on what's cooler to you. i think people coming back to life is cheesy, so I like to think of it as he *almost* died.

Okay...okay. I co-wrote and directed the movie so here's my explanation: ORKY is REBORN because of ASHLEY'S willingness to believe in him. It's a metaphor for faith and the gift children has to believe in something they can't see. Not a perfect film nor script--it was originally more like LOCAL HERO, an adult fable until the studio wanted to gear it towards kids. I don't think it ever fully recovered but still there are some good parts. I like my new film, EXPIRATION DATE, much better. See www.expirationdatethemovie.com

Rick, go easy man! There's no reason for you to apologize for your movie to these arm-chair critics. Was it Citizen Kane? No! It's still a great movie in its own rite.

I was one of the ones to have the distinct pleasure of seeing the sneak showing and I got to do the whole meet and great afterward with you and Sarah. The kind of people that would cut this movie down have probably never made or participated in making a movie before. They also would be perfectly happy with the same-old tired formula with lots of CGI to keep their little Adderall-enriched minds placated. You didn’t have a George Lucas-sized budget to work with on this movie but that doesn’t matter. It’s still a very good family film.

As for the acting capabilities they like to cut down, there isn’t a person on this board that could come close to holding a candle to Mark Harmon! I have acted before in a movie and I wouldn’t cut down anyone’s acting ability in this film. Yeah, Sarah was new to the industry prior to this film. Big Deal! She stole the show. I know it’s hard not to feed the trolls, just don’t beat yourself up over it. Good work!

Thanks Pal. I am my own worse critic so I don't mind lively discussion like this. At least people care enough to weigh in. But, P0int accepted. rick

Orky didn't eat the oreos. Orky's babies used their flippers and tounges to lick out the icing and put the outsides back together, then they went and ate Wanda and then drank the rest of Jack's beer, Coors of course. Its strange what toxic waste will do to manatees.

What makes the most sense in my mind was that the creature at the end of the movie was "Son of Orky" or something like that. I don't believe Orky himself could have revived, he was in real bad shape when the Blacks found him & we clearly saw him die. That's my theory anyway.

reply

he had to die in order to shape-shift his body(in Native tradition) to live again

Sorry for any lack of clarity.
