I Dug This Movie as a Kid

I was like 9 or 10 when I saw it, and I liked it. I honestly can't remember much about it today (something about the Lochness monster?). But I was thinking about movies I liked as a kid and still remembered that this was a title I enjoyed. So at least it has some lasting legacy amongst a few 90's kids.

Anyways, I saw the director posting on the other threads like "I'm sorry you guys thought it sucked. It was my first movie and I didn't do a good job." That made me sooo sad! Movies don't have to be all about special effects. It's all about the story, and you entertained a lot of kids. And the fact that you're still making a living as a director is proof that you have talent. :)

I first saw it when I was 5 or 6. I cried. It was so touching. I cried for a week wishing for an Orky and something magical to happen to me. I had the biggest crush on Hero. xD

Hey, thanks for your comments. I directed and co-wrote the movie and take full responsibility for it--good and bad. It was my first movie and it had some tonal problems(not to mention a non-budget monster) but it was made with genuine sincerity. I still get letters from kids who appreciated it when they were younger. Funny thing is that when we took it to SONY, it was a more quirky, adult oriented comedy in the vein of LOCAL HERO. When it came time to market it, it was renamed and re-edited for kids which made the movie a bit of a hybrid. Never a good idea. Hence, some of the language. That said, hopefully some can continue to enjoy its intentions.

If you want to watch a better movie, check out my latest black comedy, EXPIRATION DATE(www.expirationdatethemovie.com). It has traveled to six continents and 88 film festivals winning its 34th award just last week. You can also check out what I"m up to at www.rickstevenson.com

I haven't seen these discussion boards for quite a while. Glad I checked in. rick

I love this movie! I saw it for the first time when I was maybe 9 or 10. No I'm twenty and I just got a copy on DVD.

The best part is when they are driving in the car and Josh is going on about how he wants to drive the motor boat. They drive past the little kid pretending to drive the fake boat, and the dad goes "Look he's having fun." and Josh says something like "Dad he's a moron". Haha
