the reason why it takes so long is here!
if this is a disney movie that is a cartoon, they take up to about 13 years to finish.

share13 YEAR?!!?!?!
That seems like a worthwhile investment, I think a movie should
at least have the actors that star in them be alive to appreciate their handywork..lol. Well I think that this is a situation where negotiations have waivered and production has changed hands many times so the finished product will not live up to the vision at the beginning of it's inception.
Well I hope it does do well at the box office or it will all seem
like the longest waste of time...teehee.
john candy still lives on, hell yes
Amen Brother, he faked his death!!
sharei assume, geoff, you were being sarcastic....
john candy recorded his voice parts in the early ninties, before his death.
animated films DONT always take this long to make..... it was shelved instead of released in 1997 due to insufficient funds, until interest in the movie resparked much later.
Indeed, i was being sarcastic. Oh my you got me. Come on lighten up...
shareword up, candy is the shhhh in uncle buck and planes, trains, i heard he was on a island in the south pacific with biggie and 2pac zzzzzzzzzuuuuuuuuuppppp
share13 Years??!! That maybe from conception to release but not from beginning of production to end of production.
You might have read this out of context. I heard once that an episode of the Simpsons takes 7 years to make but that is because they add up all the man hours spent on it so if one person did it then it would take 7 years.
I have a feeling that this is similar.

Yeah 13 years is ridiculously wrong, I'm thinking. In an interview i watched with some animated film producer she said that it usually takes about 4-5 years. I mean, think about that. How many movies have sequels because of their prequels' successes? They don't typically happen 13 or so years later, do they?
shareDefinately only takes a couple of years, not 13. Another example is Chris Farley was originally the voice of Shrek, as they do the voices years before the movie comes out.

True, animatins usually take longer to be finish. I heard the Simpsons take only months not years to make, but that's what i heard anyways LOL
sharehave to disagree, usually Disney originals are of poor quality and would not take this long, just for the budget.
shareIt is not Disney, though. It would say so if it was...that and I work for Disney and this picture is NEVER mentioned anywhere.
Just because it is animated does not make it Disney.

And 13 years is a HUGE exaggeration for an animated film. The animation for a film like Finding Nemo only takes around 4-5 years. When you add on pre-production, voiceover recording, post-production, and conception, that may up that to 7-8 years, 9 tops.
The insufficient funding that caused the film to be shelved for a whole decade could also be the reason behind the TV release, rather than a theatrical release.
That makes no sense considering that computer animation is more involved and Pixar can get a movie done in less than 4. The reason there was a sequel to Toy Story was because it was a hit. Toy Story 2 came out in 1999; four years after the original. So I say phooey to you, sir. Phooey and poppycock.
shareBasically, from my interpretation of the Wikipedia article, the original production company recorded the actors, but ran out of money during the animation phase. It's been on/off ever since.
