when he stormed into the church at the graduation day, what did Stig do or tried to show his teacher? Did he forget to zip up his zipper or he did an exhibition of his privates to his teacher as an act of defiance? Can somebody clear this up for me or give me some insights, please?
shareI picked it up as him confronting her with her view of what had happened: something went terribly wrong, she betrayed him, and she thought there'd be a good chance the boy would take revenge.
The way I understood that scene was : for all the humiliation and thigh-flashes that Viola gave him in front of the class, He just wanted to make her realise how it feels to be in such a situation.
shareThe thing is, I don't really understand how such a callous and depraved woman would react the way she did (with horror, it looked like). I don't think she would have given two *beep* about him doing that, if the movie had been credible.
shareI think her horror is what made it more credible. After all, she was OK with her own sexual advances and her exploits with Stig, so long as no one knew. I think her horror was more about being exposed for who she really was and the rest of the teachers and students finding out about her relationship with Stig. To everyone else, she seemed like a good, upright housewife and teacher. You have to remember that sexuality was not something that was brought out in the open during that time period, and the social stigma for a woman who slept with underage students would have been even worse than it is now.
