I would appreciate this movie more if the teacher was not nymphomaniac

Overall the actors were good which made the film bearable but I think that if the teacher was not that bizarrely sex crazed the film could be much better.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

Just because she had an affair with a student does not mean she was a nymphomaniac.

All her life she was pursued by men because of her beauty and she detested their pursuits, and she was trapped in an unhappy marriage to a man she thought would be faithful to her and love her for her intelligence but who promptly cheated on her shortly after their marriage.

So in revenge against all the adult men who only lusted after her and her husband who cheated on her, she began affairs with her students in order to have control of the relationships which would enable her to teach the boys to love her (and other women) the way she (and other women) wanted to be loved.

Without this key plot element, there would be no film.

I don't think you should get hung up on the "sex thing" in this movie. This movie is about a boy moving through puberty and experiencing the troubles represented in such a liminal phase in life. The erotic side to it isn't "porn" but an important part of the movie. Although guilt and consideration of having relations to his teacher - or on the teacher's behalf - towards her pupil or for that matter also both persons guilt because of a husband or the pupils relation to him as some sort of friend - I think you miss something by just being "exited or disgusted" by sex/porn/whatever?

Funny how this movie somehow resonates now.

There's no evidence that Viola was a nymphomaniac. The fact that a woman's sexuality in 2007, the year of your post, is so described shows that sexism is as prevalent and entrenched as ever.
