Did the teacher's husband know or not?

I am getting conflicting information... did the teacher's husband know or not?

Show me the holes!

I just rewatched it for the first time since it came out. Great film!

I don't really see where you get conflicting information. When the husband catches Stig in Viola's nightgown he makes several remarks that make it clear he knows. He then proceeds to explain how their marriage fell apart due to his infidelity right after their marriage, and how it 'cost him a son'. He more or less 'pardons' Stig in that scene.

The irony is that both husband and wife need/use Stig's companionship to ease the pain of their failed lives/marriage (and later business). They both find in him something they had lost in each other (a friend for him, a lover for her).

Stig can't choose, and ultimately does the only sensible thing: he chooses for himself.

Yes he knew and I think he knew the first time he catches Stig in their apartment. He makes a wry comment about him to Viola.

Intent ends, spirit continues
