What do Japanese people/speakers think of this film?

When I watched the film, I loved it. But I couldn't help but wonder if acting was as convincing to someone watching the film as a Japanese person that is privy to the language and culture.

I can often times think of American movies that I have seen with amazing stories, but the acting and/or dialogue was ultimately a let down. I did not notice anything like that but it could have just been because I was so into the story line and I would not even pick up on things like that as a non-speaker.

Thoughts?

I'm not a good japanese speaker but I felt the granddad was a bit weak. Besides him, only a few minor characters gave me this impression.

When I discovered this film about ten years ago there were two Japanese guys in my team. I loaned them my DVD and they both loved it and thought it worked quite well. This is my favorite of Iwai's films, but each of them had a different favorite from this director.

Oh Lord, you gave them eyes but they cannot see...
