Margaret's quote, not quite true...

She says "Any animal can give birth. That doesn't make it a mother". I don't agree with that. Animals, especially mothers, have a natural maternal instinct and the human kind should get inspiration from it. Of course a mother bear don't go and buy diapers or worry about college, but being a mother is not only about that; it is about love, and animals do have it. I am tired of people comparing unloving parents to animals Or any violent behavior to animal behaviour. In the animal kingdom we have a lot of love and especially motherly love. When a calf is taken away from his mother cow, she cries and becomes depressed: This is only one example among many. Humans don't have to give lessons on parenthood because the worst atrocities are commited by them, I mean child abuse and neglect etc. even murder. You will never see an animal abused by his mother, but a child yes, unfortunately.
This being said, I was disappointed by the ending of this otherwise good movie.

Sorry, English is my second language.

That quote is my mantra. And here's why:
There are several animal species that reproduce but do not care for their young or have any maternal instinct, or "mother" it as we define mothering. Even some species that do parent their young sometimes choose not to for whatever reason.
But the main reason I find this quote so meaningful and true, is being a full time stepparent to a child whose mother abandoned him at a year old, has never helped support him or take care of him in any way, and still loves to throw the phrase "I'm his mother" in my face whenever it's convenient for her. I know several women who have given birth and run from their children. And in that situation, this line is perfect. Giving birth did NOT make them mothers. It made them incubators. Just like certain species in the animal world.

hola.
hi all.

First:
in regard to your post:
SENECA:
I am not a fan of all step-mothers,or step father, premise on my own reasoning, however, you are correct, and so was the great jessica lange,(great actress, quite realistic!)love her in this fine 10+rated movie,i have it on right now TV ONE channel on cable.love it,have not watch in a very long time,so sad, throughout but sooo good, her lawyer was a dunce imo.
saying, how blk kids belong with same color parents?O REALLY?

i always RTE(roll the eyes) at the scene.
as my parents say:

"Not if 1 CRACK-FEIN
trashy no good woman"mom" throw him or her in the nearest toilet,or in halle berry character case a trash bin"so she can jet-off to get her nearest fix"IMO hair texture,how your fixing one's hair etc;

The hair is just so COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT," and i m so happy as so many worldwide, where we see her at the end, procuring custody, when miss kyla knew it was way too hard, for her,and he KNEW at even three years old, or 4, that he want to be with the caucasian family who was so good to him since birth.I think that is more relevant.
But the movie was only adaging,"how black kids belong with black and i didn't like to hear that."It is not right.A child deserve respect, attention, love,NURTURE,care, and above all else, protection, and MORE love...KYLA was not able to do that, then suddenly
think she can just,"come on in and snatch the child"come on now...That was so wrong.
If it was a few days, heck even a few months,i get it,but he was already three or four!
SMH.

..

I love this movie, make sense to me and i m happy it ended as it did,QUITE REALISTIC...
.
I don't see WHO CAN'T CRY AT THE END,i try not to,but each time i do as i will tonight(happy tears that is)

...
I am happy she give ISAIAH back to his MOTHER, and FATHER,sister hannah.
.
Well done. Not all situations like this happen, but i have a friend whose in this situation, for over 15yrs. the child is now teens, and still better off with the white mom who raise him from the E.R. when no 1 was able to care for him,he was left
on a hospital step at least, while parents later were supposedly on drugs et;al.
She raise the lil boy since 4 mos.old, premise on, almost same thing as what we are watching, and the child turn out perfectly, also know his blk roots, encompassed with so much love for so long, since adopted by his "mother."
He see her as his mother, and is doing well, actually very well, in life.

Back on this movie:

Kyla smile at the end walking off,as she KNEW
deep within the boy feelings have to come first, not her own and imo? That made her a very mature person at the end,NOT her getting custody. I always envision Kyla somewhere happy "clean" & married, and or single while raising her next child,MORE mature, and loving happy becauses she did what is BEST for her 1st by letting him return to his "mother" margaret. adios!

#SameSkinColorDontMake_TheBETTERparent
LOVE DOES...
PROTECTION of your child 24/7
CARING...
NURTURING.

Glad kyla realize that later.
adios.

And by the way, even though English is not your first language, your writing is still better than half the posts by people whose first language IS English:)

I don't think she was trying to be scientifically correct, just saying it takes more than giving birth to a child to make you their mother
