why did they have Hara Krishna stories in the film

First i want to say the only reason that i like this movie is beautiful sceanery in this movie and loctions and that is it i first saw in 1995 when it came out and i saw it at the movie cimma when my mother . i had read the book 4 times before and i was hoping they would make it so much like the book as they did not .

i did not know at the time that the stories that sara was telling where from the Hara Krishna relgion until now since i have done research on other relgions just to know what was out there even though i am a born again Chrristian and always will be .
i want to say that i have nothing agentst Hara Krishna and i am not trying to bash it by asking the question why they decided to have those stories though out the movie .
Are there other people out there who noticed this when they watched the movie ?

The stories are from the Ramayana, the great epic of Indian tradition. It's like The Illiad and the Odyssey or Grimm's Fairytales from the Western canon. They're stories that Sara grew up hearing in India from her nanny, so it serves as a foundation for her love of stories and storytelling, her active imagination, and her beliefs about good and evil, heroism, and so on.

I really enjoyed the way the director used the story of Rama and Sita as a parallel to the story of Sara and her father; as I'm sure you noticed, the story she tells her schoolmates throughout the movie often foreshadows or reflects plot points and character growth in Sara's life. I don't know that it serves a solid purpose beyond being really beautiful to look at and showing us the way Sara thinks about things, but I thought it added a nice extra layer of depth to the story.

One thing I want to say is i really think that hara Krishna statues and paintings are so beautiful .

Umm...you do know that the Hindu religion isn't synonyms with the Hare Krishna movement, right?

it's general hinduism, not specifically hare krishna

Probably for the same reason Christian stories get told in films. Either the director is a Hindu or has affection for Hinduism or he doesn't care about the religion at all but thought the story from the Ramayana was worth repeating. Christians do not have a monopoly on good or morality, so I do not see why having a Hindu story is particularly strange or not worthy.

But one thing is for sure, Hindus have better religious music than Christians (though I have heard Kristian sitar music from India) and the use of raga music in connection with Hindu spirituality makes the inclusion of such things a feast for the ears.

As an atheist, who better to reply to your nonsense!

Who put you in charge of judging the music of the world's religions?

I find the 90% rule applies to most things; 90% of everything is BS.

Ah, but that remaining 10% is often sublime.

Goes for genres of music as well.

But, let me make a pitch just for christian music.

Almost everyones first exposure to music is the church. Do I have to tell you the importance of that background to blues, country and rock?

American music is popular ALL over the world; you can't say that about any other country.

I am judging religious music as I have a right to my opinion and I certainly think Hindu religious music is better than Christian; sitars are my favourite instruments. I am not sure why you think that my opinion is ''nonsense'' nor do I appreciate your hostile and ridiculous tone. You think Christian music is better than Hindu music. Fine! Good for you! That is your opinion. Now run along and enjoy that ol' time religious music!

''American music is popular ALL over the world; you can't say that about any other country.''

Classical music is not ''American'' and most of the world still likes it. Likewise there are many sub-genres of popular music from the UK which is still popular. Your claim is false.

Sara was raised in India, those are the stories she knows...

Also, they're Hindu religious stories, not specifically Hari Krishna.
