Plain black dress?

Watching this movie right now. Yay. For the 100th time lol. 1 thing irritating me. Miss Minchon (after she finds out Sara's father "dies") she tells her sister "Go get a plain black dress from one of the other girls if she doesn't have one". We never see them in real clothes do we? Just uniform or nightgown. Why would they have a dress, black/plain or not? Sure realistically they have other clothes, but they are never shown so maybe they don't. ;)

It is a boarding school, so when the girls go out on vacation, and then come back, they have to wear street clothes, not uniforms.

They would have a plain black dress for Funerals. Because in the west back then everyone wore black at funerals.
