She seems to be always around when Sera is trying to hook up with some guy, like the older guy at the bar, and also when she was with Ben.

I think the movie tried to represent the reality of prostitution, all the way down to the competition. I found it interesting how she was treated by the casino manager also. There wasn't really one glamorous think about her life, which is probably true for a prostitute at that level. I heard the original screenplay for pretty woman was supposed to be similar to this but Hollywood chose to make it a fantasy.
