Stupidest 'Why Didn't They Call The Police?' movie

Many movie falls under the "Why Didn't They Call The Police?" catagory. But this is one of the worst.

Not only did Zach bring a bigaz hunting knife and an obvious psycho. But he actually broke Pete's arm. Self-defense 101. For supposedly smart people, they were REALLY stupid.

reply

How do they prove it was self defense? It not illegal for Zach to have that knife, cant show that someone was psycho when they are dead, cant prove Zach threatened anyone

reply

It's the job of the prosecutors to prove Beyond a Reasonable Doubt.
It's not the job of the defense.
If Casey's not guilty BRD, then what do think of these 5.
Was there evidence of Zach being beaten?? NO
Was there evidence of restraint on Zach?? NO
Was there evidence of Zach threatening anyone?? YES
There were 5 witnesses... YES That's evidence.
There was Pete's broken arm.... actually physical evidence.
Actually unless one of the 5 lie, there is no evidence for anything OTHER than self-defense.

PS. If this ever happen to you,
DO NOT BURY THE BODY IN YOUR BACKYARD. JUST CALL THE COPS.

reply

They have to show that killing Zach was necessary and there was 5 of them why didn't they over power Zach? You have to show that Zach threaten them and it was necessary to kill him

All there is eyewitness evidence and eyewitness are unreliably, inviting someone to your house killing them and claiming they threatened me isn't a defense
cant prove Zach broke Pete's arm, there is no way to show what happened first Zach's death or Pete's broken arm

reply

The fact that they didn't overpower Zach works in their favor. If they pounded him down or restrained him, then it could be argued that they could escape the situation without killing Zach.

"inviting someone to your house killing them and claiming they threatened me isn't a defense"
Taking your argument to its logical end.... If somebody you invited to your house tries to kill you, you'd have no other options but to DIE.

I don't know what else to say. I get the sense that you'd do the same if you ever got into the same jam. Which lead me to ask you "NEVER invite me to your dinner parties."

reply

Because if they called the police the movie would have only been 5 minutes long!

That's it.

reply

You think police would believe them?

reply

It's more believable than that they invited him in and then killed him for no reason. The guy brought a knife with him and they would have ultimately found Jenny Tyler's blood in his car. They would have been fine.

What if a squirrel wants a sausage?

reply

OP, its almost sweet how naive you are about the justice system. Had they called the police there is an EXTREMELY good chance Mark would have been charged with murder and god knows what else, and the others would have been charged with accessory and whatever other 100 charges the DA could pull out of his ass. They might say "innocent until proven guilty" but if that were true, why do you sit in jail until trial? Our just system takes a much more hands on guilty until proven innocent stance. If you think the cops and DA's are out there to help you, you've obviously never needed them, or had any experience with them whatsoever. They're out to get the easiest conviction, and at a scene like that none of them would have been getting off. just cuz you're innocent doesn't mean you won't get convicted.

she'll come back as fire, burn all the liars, leave a blanket of ash on the ground ~ Kurt Cobain

reply

He was stabbed in the back. And maybe they weren't as cool and collected as you are about killing someone they didn't have to kill. Zach was way outnumbered. That would give anyone pause.

reply

The 'attacker' was stabbed in the back, and there weren't any defensive wounds to his front. The crime scene could easily be perceived that Zach had been lured to the house, ambushed, and broken an arm in his own defense. Then while fleeing he was murdered. Not a clear case of self defense.

reply

I agree.

I also want to point ut that they were worried about manslaughter, rather then getting charged with murder.

One of them even said "this could put someone in jail for 1 to 3 years"

reply

Let's assume that this is a clear cut self defense case. By the time it goes to court and the trial is over we are talking probably 2 years. Would YOU want to sit in jail for 2 years?

Didn't think so.

reply

Yea, except its the prosecutor's job to decide whether or not to pursue charges, and in this case, they would definitely NOT pursue a murder charge. There are 5 witnesses! 5 witnesses that presumably do not have any sort of criminal background. The guy held a knife to one's neck, threatened to rape and kill them, broke one's arm, and most importantly, when they had the knife against him, he easily countered it and took the knife back. They might have to embellish a bit to the cops but this is an open and shut case of self defense.

reply

Its not an open and shut case. They have to prove they didn't use excessive force.
You cant use excessive force and claim self defense

Even though we know that's what happened. There's is no way to prove that's what happened to people who weren't there. What it looks like to people who weren't there that they invited him in, ambushed him, he defended himself but was killed regardless. Unless there was a tape recording of the event, there is no proof of the things he said.

By Grabthar's Hammer...what a savings.

reply

You have to meet certain standards to claim self defense. The initial aggressor in a fight cant claim self defense unless the initial aggressor used non deadly force and the victim replied with deadly force.
How can you prove who the initial aggressor was? Yes you have five witnesses but they presumably known each other for years and have amble time to come up with some story.

reply

Completely agree - call the freaking cops
Broken arm and 5 witnesses

reply

Omg it's a black comedy!

History is written by the victors.

reply

The guy was a wanted felon. I'm sure they could argue self defense

reply

They didn't know at the time he was a wanted felon.

reply
