I am kind of scared. I don't really have anything against ScarJo, but I just fear that a hollywood live action remake can't capture the spirit of the source material and I don't really like the idea of her playing Motoko. We'll have to wait and see.

It won't. It can't after 20 years of anticipation.

I'm glad that they never made a "Cowboy Bebop" live action movie for the same reason, it just won't live up to the source material.

reply

So bad. The movie is going to suck. There is no way this live adaptation will be any good.

Dude, that was SO not extreme!

reply

why can't they just go with an actress of oriental origin, wether they live in Amercia or not!

they need to keep faithful to it's comic, film[animation]

reply

Scarlett Johansson has been a hit lately with the box office. They probably think they will make no money back with a oriental actress.

Dude, that was SO not extreme!

reply

they shouldn't think like that, as comic and animation I'm has a really big following so it would make money anyway!

reply

I think the studios are nervous about not making money in America.

I mean some anime live adaptations have flopped, Dragon Ball Z, Speed Racer. I don't think American audiences are that into anime movies anymore.

Dude, that was SO not extreme!

reply

They mostly failed though because of two reasons

1) Terrible marketing

2) The movies were generally terrible.

This issue doesn't infuriate me like it use to but I still think it's stupid that we're in 2015 and Hollywood still thinks North America is too racist or close minded to see a film with an Asian lead for popular Asian source material with Asian characters....

THAT'S NOT A BAD THING.....THAT'S...A GOOD THING

reply

Because Hollywood is racist...

reply

Hollywood need to sort it out

reply

As long as the Zionist rules it. It won't be sorted :D

reply

It's an AMERICAN ADAPTATION. The movie will likely be set in America instead of Japan. The characters will be white. They're likely going to give them American names. It'll have the same plot, but they sure as hell aren't going to make a big budget Hollywood film with Scarlett Johansson as the lead and make the main character named Motoko Kusanagi. They'll either change her name or just call her Major. Edge of Tomorrow changed the main character's name from Keiji Kiriya to William Cage and that movie turned out great.

Casting Scarlett confirms my fears for the live-action remake 100%.
It's obvious this is just for money. It's not like she's a bad actress (a bit hit/miss in the past imo.) But Motoko should be portrayed as Asian - this is just obvious. Scarlett is probably the biggest sex-symbol currently working in film, so I'm sure this will bring huge audiences to the film (sadly not for the right reasons.)

reply

yea you would of thought they would of cast someone that is from Asia/Chinese etc
or someone that has origins of that culture that has grown up in UK/US etc someoe like Maggie Q

reply

Considering she can't act, she'd be perfect to play a robot. :))

Maybe that spider-bot, she can play as that.

reply

obviously you don't like her DBLurker

reply

I don't hate her. She's easy on the eyes and can act in serious roles which don't ask for an actor to emote much.

That's why she'll be fine for the role.

But I don't consider her to be a "REALLY GOOD ACTRESS" or "OMG SO TOTALLY HOT" like other people do. Doesn't mean I wouldn't watch a movie with her in it (like Avengers.. but I didn't see Avengers 2 mostly cause first was *beep*

reply

I think Emily Blunt would make a much better Major than Scarjo.

Having seen her in Sicario and in Edge of Tomorrow, it's clear she can kick ass, and still keep the cool, sardonic, headstrong, authoritative tone Motoko has, without losing her vulnerability.

Nothing against Scarjo. I think she can play opaque (Under the Skin, Lucy), but Emily Blunt could bring out the more philosophical side of the story, or whatever is left of that after the project is run through the Hollywood machine.
