I have no idea what I just watched.

I literally did not understand any of the plot. What are sections? What are ghosts? What is the Puppet Master? What is cyber-brain-hacking or whatever it was? What is the significance of the politics? I did not understand who at least half the characters were and why they did the things they did.

Should I have read the manga before watching this? Was the story poorly told? Or am I simply just stupid?

I did enjoy the movie, but I'm sure I would have liked it more if I just understood it.

There were also several things I didn't get, plot-wise. So I watched the movie again 2 days later. Really helped.

Just pay close attention or perhaps try repeat some of the scenes like I did if you feel you don't fully grasp what is being said.

It becomes straight forward enough mid-way through to the end though. Enjoy!

no youre not stupid GiTs is just confusing as hell. The only reason I understood it is because I've seen the anime (I havent actually finished it yet because like you, all of the politics and terms can get confusing)

dont quote me but sections are pretty much just different law enforcement units, ghosts are like souls (hence ghost in the shell) the puppet master was some sort of sentient program that could control others and cyber brain hacking is pretty much what it sounds like, hacking into peoples brains and controlling them. and as far as politics goes, thats kind of what section 9 deals with. once again im not the most knowledgeable when it comes to gits so dont take any of those as facts.

What is the anime? Where can I watch it?

You know what the Queen said? If I had balls, I'd be King.

reply

Exactly how I felt. To me, there was no beginning, no ending and no development whatsoever. I'm kind of surprised this is considered mainstream anime, seeing that it was confusing as *beep*; and not in the good way.

You need to watch the movie twice, have a copy with reputable subtitles and have a basic understanding of computer programming.

Troll or literally lives under a bridge and doesn't read anything and somehow has internet access.

Even through school most people at least gloss over the archetypes in this.

I call shenanigans

I just watched it for the first time and my experience was rather similar. The movie is full of cool scenes. But I did not understand many elements of the plot.

its a movie you have to watch multiple times to grasp what is going on
