Caruso = Pillsbury Dough Boy

What killed Caruso's movie career? It was the scene in this movie when the supposedly "tough ex-con" took off his shirt, revealing a soft, pasty mid-section. He must have spent all his time in prison eating potato chips and watching TV.

reply

Yeah-- I think he's a good actor, but I just don't see him beating up "Little" Junior or Samuel Jackson in a fist-fight.

reply

He might be a "good actor" but he didn't do very well in this one. He was not believable at all. He did not seem at all like anyone who was ever mixed up in a life of crime. He seemed like a goody two shoes really.

It's partially the way he looks, both in the body and in the face.

But did you notice the way he ran? It's kind of effeminate. The way he talked was really stiff too.

Granted he was a horrible miscast here. But it's not like he seemed like he was even really trying to act well.

And when you compare him to Cage, there's no comparison. This was one of Cage's ten best performances for sure. And it was ruined by Caruso.

reply

i believe his character was supposed to be guarded in his actions, so i got the talking stiff part, as a matter of fact rather enjoyed that part of his character.

also, some small people can fight, you know. and plus he's scared, street smart, etc. so it's going to be fight for his life.

he let the cop beat him up, because okay, "i deserved that" but when he told the cop, "next time you beat me, i'm not going to just stand there."

reply

Ruined by Sammy Jackson who is not an actor/affirmative action!

reply

He didn't beat up either Little Junior or Samuel L. Jackson in this movie. Jackson kicked his ass and he didn't fight back at all (Jackson being a cop) and he put up a believably good fight with Junior where Junior had the upper hand on him before Jackson saved him. So your criticism is invalid.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

this is the best acting caruso has EVER done in front of a camera.

proof of life is a better move, but this was a far more demanding role which he nailed perfectly; pasty midsection aside

it is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it

reply

Wow, all this talk here about a pasty midsection has really got me confused... I watched the movie last night for the first time in 17 years, and was expecting a lot worse when Caruso's shirt came off. He wasn't that out of shape, guys. You're all just deluded into thinking all "tough guys" out there look like Chris Evans or Tom Cruise with their shirts off... real life ain't like that...

And I agree with erikriveros, Caruso's acting was fine in this movie.

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

I grew up with blacks and never lost a fight. This film shows White Men as Negrophobes and the Irish gang that I ran with cut off black heads with chain saws.
In a one on one situation I knocked out 25 to 40 negroes in 10 years...I trained with weights and boxed...............and was/am fearless.
The people who made this film...are a Hate group........Whites like me should have been in the movie.

PROOF OF LIFE and JADE killed Caruso's movie career, then he went crawling back to Televison.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

reply

Yeah, and made a gazillion dollars on CSI: Miami.

Go back to pounding your mother's rump.

reply

I enjoyed both movies, except for the ending of Jade. >:(
