Just one thing that bothers me

If I am not mistaken Bobby was castrated in the prison right? How could they do this? I mean we are talking about the US govt, not the Taliban.. & who castrated him? Was it sherrif Tanny Brown? Also, he could have moved the court against them & got out of jail saying that he was incapable of rape because of his castration. Now you might say that he didn't want the world to know that he was castrated since it might have been humiliating & he could still rape a girl with a finger or an object. But the whole idea of castration in a prison by the authorities seems a bit far fetched. Is it just me?

Watched this last night and couldn't recall any mention of castration?

When is that implied?

YOU MUST BE THIS DEAD TO RIDE

reply

It's specifically mentioned by the character. He says it in the cabin when he has the wife and daughter hostage.

reply

Yes indeed, I was mistaken.

After I'd posted I got home and realized I hadn't actually finished the film (watching 40+ films in a month will do that to ya). DVD was sitting at just over the 1 hour mark and they hadn't gotten to the cabin sequence yet.

COGNITIVE LUST OF MUTILATION

Yeah, I don't know I buy the castration bit, though it is supported by the mention of there being no semen found on the corpse of the murdered little girl. I suppose it's possible they castrated him, and that does seem like decent motivation for him to be so bitter and homicidal, but I felt the construction of his character was flimsy and stupid, and had a rather negative impact on the narrative. What started out a great movie, to me, ended up a mess of clichés and thoughtlessness.

reply

not only the castration, why should we buy that blair sullivan wants to take more crimes on him to be able to get the chair, it's not logical

reply

He wasent castrated in prison after the rape and killing of the young white girl. He was castrated and beaten sometime earlier (not shown in movie) when he had to spend 1 nite in jail because he was suspected of raping another white girl. The arresting officer for that was that girls boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend) so either him and other racist officiers beat and castrated him or some racist inmates did. The next day he went to the hospital and the case was thrown out. Since armstrong's wife was the prosecutor and caused him to have to stay overnite (just because she was trying to prove her worth)he blamed her for everything.

If i understand correctly, castration is just the testicles beiong removed, not everything. So you can still have sex but dont think you can produce sperm.

reply

he is physically castrated as he pulls the womans hand to his groin showing there is nothing there.

reply

That was what I had a problem with too! How could he be castrated during one night of being in prison? Also, they never gave a reason why he killed that young girl - what was the motivation?

Castration is any action by which a male loses the functions of the testicles. Testicles, not the whole package.

-If that's a confession, my a$$ is a banjo.-

reply

But it is fairly evident here that he didn't lose just a function, but the whole package. I am referrring to when he makes sean's wife touch him 'there'.

reply

Castration means you do not produce sperm, but you do produce "semen" as that comes from the prostate gland.

However, the medical examiner says there was no semen and this is supposed to tie the crime to Earl in the end. It would not do this however.

reply

Maybe he was locked up in Abu Ghraib?
