I am looking forward to it, but personally I already knew the new film would be better than this by the trailer alone.
I've got an ignore list longer than a Chinese pone book.
Dredd is 10 times better because it wasn't trying to be a kid's film or a star verhicle out of the source material which is what people say what the Stallone film was trying to do make a family friendly version, aside from the lack of graphic violence what was kid friendly and campy about the Stallone film?

shareAs silly as Stallone's movie is, I don't recall looking at my watch every ten minutes like I did with the new Dredd. I heard good things about it and looked forward to seeing it, but I was disappointed. Those drug effect scenes went on for an ETERNITY. It wasn't bad; just forgettable.

Dredd will be remembered as a plot-less bag of action porn. The whole movie is a simple excuse to get Dredd trapped in a building, where for the next hour he just blows people away. No story, no nothing, just mindless action designed to satisfy a mindless modern movie-going audience who thinks that CGI and 3D are what makes a movie good.
The original wasn't a great movie and it was more campy than it should have been, but it's still a better movie than Dredd. Oh, and Urban will never be able to hold Stallone's jock.

I'm forced to agree. Ten times better? What a joke. They're both OK movies. Nothing more, nothing less. What is this ten times better bu||sh!t?

I liked dredd but it's not as good as some fans make out. the makers obviously thought all people wanted was Dredd shooting people and just because he kep his helmet on people would automatically think it's faithful to the comic.
And Mega city looks way more impressive in the Stallone film too.
I find reason 9 hard to believe. Judge Dredd with it's 90million dollar budget looks far more impressive then the 45 million spent on Dredd. I watched the movie wondering what they did with the money? Especially considering District 9 was only 30 million and looked far more impressive.

It isn't even so much about the character Dredd, past the first 15 minutes or so - but about Stallone and a remake of Demolition Man crossed with various influences. In contrast the reboot has a quite simple, but effective polt, which offers subtle complexity. "Dredd" stays dynamic all along and doesn't loose itself in camp, romance or silly Schneider-jokes.

The plot:
Dredd, a dedicated but somewhat jaded veteran of Justice Department, is one of thousands of Judges fighting a losing battle against anarchy and lawlessness in a post-apocalyptic urban hell. He believes that the Judges and their methods (strict adherence to the letter of the law, and bring down the hammer on anyone who breaks it, without regard for their situation) is the only thing keeping order in the chaos. It's basically a hopeless and self-perpetuating system, and some Judges (like Lex and his crew) have lost faith in the law and turned to corruption, believing that the city is nothing but a "meat grinder".
Then Dredd gets handed a rookie he doesn't want and is ready to write off, since she hasn't measured up to the standards set by the Department (standards which are embodied by Dredd himself). She believes that there are still good people in the city, and wants to be a Judge because it will allow her to make a difference - a contrast to Dredd, who clearly thinks that making a difference "to a block like this" is a naive ideal.
Putting the rookie through her paces, however, he finds that not only does she rise to the occasion and prove that she's capable of handling active duty, but - by granting mercy to a man Dredd would have executed without question, since his crimes were committed under duress - shows that she has a more evolved understanding of "dispensing justice" than he does. This implies that she failed to meet the standards not because she's flawed, but because the standards are.
After dealing with the lawbreakers they're up against, Dredd gives her a passing grade - possibly because of the way she handled herself during the crisis, or possibly because he's come to believe that her more progressive approach to the job will be an asset after all.
That's the plot I got from it, anyway. Your mileage may vary. share

You forgot the most important reason. The Judge Uniform in Dredd was NOT designed by a Versace, and thus no FLAMING GAY padded codpiece.
