The Kiss in the Gym

When Steve and Michael shared that first kiss in the gym, the movie cut over to some kids watching a movie and making gaging sounds. Why did they cut away from that kiss? Those kids had nothing to do with the movie. Unless of course back in 1995 you didn't dare have the camera linger too long on two men kissing?

Considering the voice of the movie and the breaking of the fourth wall. I don't think it was taking a break from the men kissing. I think it was making a comment on how the average american male would probably think that was disgusting. While the average american female would accept it and think it's cute.
