Questions about the Ending (Spoilers)

In a critical scene near the very end, why is Amy showing up at Sarah's Mom's (the grandmother of Jack's baby) place wondering if "Phil" is still there? Who is Phil? Maybe I would understand her looking for "Bill" since Bill (William) and the grandmother get married at the very end so maybe they have been hanging out together with Amy during this time (but she definitely asks about "Phil"). This scene is critical since this is where Jack asks Amy to get back together.

Also there seems to be not enough info regarding the character of Susan. Do we ever see her? Is she somewhere in the background in the scene where it looks like Amy is marrying Alain? Supposedly she is a best friend of Amy but I guess I missed that part too. Where do we learn about her? It was frustrating not knowing much about this character, she comes a surprise, much like Bill's romance at the end. The other frustration is Alain and Susan's marriage which simply looks too much like it is Amy he is marrying.

Phil is Jacks mother - in - law; the grandmother
I don't think we need to see much of susan - the story is about Jack and Sarah and Amys part in their life -

It is my understanding that Phil set up the meeting between Jack and Amy by claiming that she needed milk and then making herself scarce. Very sweet of her.

If it's a boy, do you think it will look like Rodney? It doesn't matter as long as it's healthy!

I know this is an old question but I thought I would answer it.

My guess would be that Amy is staying with Phil (the grandmother) as she probably wouldn't have had a place to live after leaving Jack's place.

Susan, if I remember correctly, is the friend who Amy had lunch with on her first day working for Jack. There is a scene where Jack rings Amy on the cell phone while she is in the cafe with Susan and Sarah.

There is also a scene where Amy has practically been kicked out of the house on the first weekend and she is trying to find stuff to do. She buzzes on a friends house buzzer (I guess it is Susan's) and Susan is fooling around with Alain while on the buzzer.

It was supposed to look like Amy married Alain (so Jack realises his feelings) but Amy says at Phil's house that she caught the bouquet so what Jack saw was probably just after that moment when photos were being taken.
