how true?


i understand thid is a true movie,about the directors lover.So what i want to know is knowing some one is goin to kill himself,isnt that against the law?So how was he able to make this movie and get away with it.Dont get me wrong i love the movie and i would do the same thing.I have to say it must have been really hard for him to make this.All i can say is thanks for a amazing movie!

Well it was a low-budget movie, so it doesn't surprise me that they wouldn't run into some kind of legal trouble. The actual events happened in 1992, and I am guessing since it's illegal to assist in suicides, they probably were just very mum about it.

I was just about to post the same thing, although I am coming from the characters' point of view, as I didn't realise that it was based on a true story.

I was thinking that, it seems unlikely that someone in the large group of friends wouldn't spill the beans to the police, or at least try to get Nick some counselling to stop him from killing himself. But, if it is a true story, then I suppose that they must all have kept quiet. It would be incredibly difficult when it's someone you care about, though.

Harry Stein was the name of the real man who took his life after his party. This youtube link has a walk through of the actual house with pictures of the party. Also, in the movie after he takes the pills, he puts his picture on the wall of all his friends who have died of AIDS and adds his name. If you look right above where he places his photo is the name Harry Stein and a picture of him.
