I like them both.
Alysa because she was sweet and Amanda was cool and cheeky ha ha ha.
It took two to bring Diane and Roger together... and i don't think they could have done it without two different personalities.

Amanda, MK is a far better actress I also prefer Hallie in T.P.T
But lets go over pros and cons:
Alyssa:
Pros
Loving Father
Goes to a posh boarding school (could aslso be counted as a con I 'spose whichever way you look at it)
Is great at piano, and has won many trophies
Her family is rich and well connected
Has a butler and good friend, Vinnie
Can ride (horses)
Has her own pool and many houses
Cons
Her mother died shortly after she was born
Doesn't get to see her father as after as she's like due to his busy working schedule.
Father getting married to snobby socialite Clarisse
Very rarely gets to be around other kids her own age
Does have a 'mother figure' in her life
Has a 'bad sense of diection'
Is scared of frogs
Amanda:
Pros
Is more 'street'
Is great at baseball
Has a great care- worker, Dianne
Can sure as hell fire a sling shot!
Is around other kids her age a lot so knows about what's cool
Isn't afraid of anything
Cons:
Is an orphan
Gets adopted by the Butkisses
Only has one person who really cares about her
Is still owed $50 bucks from Dianne
Can't ride a horse
Can't play croquet

This just changed my opinion. It would be easier for Alyssa to swap and become Amanda because baseball is really just chance (as the film proved) but it would have been harder for Amanda to become Alyssa because she would have had to become really talented (horses and pianos aren't really chance) know much more older people. Mary-Kate always had really funny parts in films which I loved, like when she had to play the piano.

I like both of them, but throughout the film, I was like "I love Amanda." I've seen this movie so many times, it's not funny. So, I don't exactly know who I like better. It's sort of equal, but if I had to pick, yes Amanda.

alyssa obviously... tomboys are usually so bratty or just boring. hallie in The Parent Trap was the biggest brat but she got away with murder, lol.
