It's noticable with a lot of movies typically made for children. True, many disney movies are being made differently to be more appealing for adults nowadays. But even some of the most modern Disney movies are kind of cheesy.

I've noticed it a lot when I bring out the old VHS's that I used to watch as a kid. The story itself is simple, anything that goes wrong in the tale to cause a bit of adventure just seems silly, and the actors or voices (especially those of the children) seem far overrated.

When it comes to the child actors, especially in this case, you have to remember that these are young children, usually in the beginning of their acting career. Of course they are going to have many faults in their acting. You must also remember facts like that of time; there are laws stating that children cannot work over a certain number of hours every day, even in movies. Aside from Disney, most movie companies don't put too much money into movies, so I would guess that they often settle for less than perfect takes when they are trying to film a children's movie in order to reduce the number of working hours young actors as well as the overall cost of production.

And, the biggest reason I believe: as viewers, children don't usually notice mistakes, even some of the biggest ones that you and I and other adults see. Movie makers know this. Look back at the many movies by the Olsen twins...terrible...cheesy. But children still loved them, and as children, so many of us loved Indian in the Cupboard as well.
