Politically Incorrect

It should be called 'the native american in the cupboard'

Uh, political correctness is so irritating. The book was called The Indian in the Cupboard, therefore the movie should have the same.

I will now read from Vertically Challenged Native American Riding Hood.

A Columbus/CuarĂ³n film: the best of both worlds (faithfulness and artistry).

I enjoyed the film. Like so many adaptations of an excellent book, it could not (not WOULD not) measure up. Film making is too expensive and the attention spans & bladder capacities of viewers too small! There are many films which are enjoyable in and of themselves, if fans of the books can divorce themselves from their proprietary criticism. Tank Girl is an excellent example of a stand alone film that is intolerable to many fans. Last of the Mohicans is another... can you imagine a truly dedicated film of THAT magnificent book?!

I would enjoy a sequel, especially if it were as well done as this original.

O, yah... by the way. As an INDIAN, let me tell you O-Righteous-And-Holier-Than-Thou-PC-Guardian-Angel, NOTHING y'all can ever do can make up for a half a millennium of genocide in the guise of the "white man's burden" & "civilizing the savage with christianity". Christ on a pogo stick! PC is Ridiculous & a buffoon's way of ignoring real problems & attempting to look like they're accomplishing something in life by fixing what's wrong. The KKK are an extreme example of what happens when individuals try to mould the rest of the world the their view. You want to fix problems? A 13 year old girl on my Reservation just won a home computer! She's an outstanding student who submitted a teriffic essay & won this incredible tool. Now if ONLY we had electricity & running water! It's irony at it's best folks. Just like PC. It's not as bad as a half century ago when white teachers beat kids & washed their mouths out with soap for speking their native language, but the ignorance & arrogance behind it haven't changed a bit.

I'd like to point out that "the guy a few posts above you" was making the point that the term "Indian" (which has led to much confusion in my experience, for the obvious reasons) is not so bad as the ignorance of things Native American. Yes, clearly things are askew here. American youths take a number of years in school to realise that there were real people here before the Europeans came, and even once they do they learn NEGLIGIBLE amounts about Indian history, culture, and distinctions between one another. People still don't realise the magnitude and scope of devastation European contact brought to the Indians, and BUTCHERER/RAPIST Christopher Columbus is still lauded as a hero by the ignorant majority of Americans today. But this is not their fault. Politicians who are afraid of REAL reform attempt a quick fix by touting their PC codes instead of working to enlighten people. American Indians are ABSOLUTELY shunted aside in our national awareness when it comes to Blacks and Jews (to use your examples- but I'd like to make clear that even they should not be forgotten or cast aside with a PC band-aid. There are still problems for both). The term "Native American" is not outright offensive in the same manner "African-American" or "Asian-American" are (since the term does not ignorantly suggest one to be only partially an American as the latter two terms do) but it is still being used by the PC police as a point of issue which distracts people from the real problem and its solution (enlightenment and understanding). All non-White American citizens have a certain degree of obstacles to overcome in their lives as racial minorities- just like any minority in any nation (I'm not saying Whites don't have their own issues- they do, though they are not the issues of minorities- at least in America)- and it does seem like American Indians get forgotten more often than their minority counterparts. After all, they were here before anyone else's ancestors. The American people need to wake up and start being seriously educated on the Native American situation in order to gain a greater understanding. That can't happen if we get so caught up in "name-games" that we make terminology the issue and not substance. People will never be able to look upon their neighbours as equals if they have to keep worrying whether they're being offensive or not, and when someone is not your equal, then they become "them" to you. Proper terminology is great, but not when it is disingenuous and/or gets in the way of everyone coming together as AMERICANS the way we're *beep* supposed to (we'll leave the Brotherhood of Man to tackle for another day).

Also, let's not play the 'who suffered the most and therefore deserves the most sympathy' game. It's so messy.

If it wasn't for comedians like Larry the Cable and Jeff Dunham and his suitcase posse, TV shows like My Name Is Earl and movies like Tropic Thunder, political incorrectnes would not have been popular today. Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Dunham and the makers behind My Name Is Earl and Tropic Thunder do make their point one way or the other.

Political correctness is incorrect because it racially classifies people and some political correct terms are sopposd to represent a group of people which is does not.

Take the term African American. Sopposed to represent black Americans. As far as im concerned a person can be white and be from Africa, and in my opinion your eithier African or American. And say a Black person from France visits the U.S., you know what people are gonna view him as? African American, even though he is neither American or African, he is French.

"native American". Sopposed to represent American indians. You know what ANY person born in the Americas IS A NATIVE AMERICAN. You can not prove they are from anywhere else but America. EX. Thier parents can be from(Native) to Germany but if thier child was born in America then thier child is Native to America, just because thier parents are from Germany doesnt make thier child that was born in America German, it makes the chiled American .Sure the American Indians were here before the Europeans but that does not make them any better than them.

The only thing I remember being said at the time the film came out was a black comedian sarcastically saying they should do similar movies about other minorities such as "The Jew in My Sock Drawer."
