I loved this movie when I was a kid but it just doesn't hold up that well...maybe if they had a stronger female actress and better creature effects I'd be able to enjoy it more. That's not to say it doesn't have it's moments, the old man on the bike was very creepy and the atmosphere was appropriately eerie. Oh, and Sam Niell (sp?) did a great job I thought.

Effects = weak sauce, female lead = weak sauce. Sam Neill/investigator bit = great.

Female Lead= so DAMN ugly it frigg'n took me completely out of the film every time they showed here Gawd-Awful face!!!

Sorry, I truly do not mean to be mean, but GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!

BTW, funny screen name...

I have over 4000 films, many of them very rare and OOP. I LOVE to trade. PLEASE ASK!

Julie Carmen is one of the weakest points of this film. If Sam Neill had a lead actress in which he could actually find chemistry, the movie would be that much stronger. Great premise, good performances by most of the supporting cast. Sam Neill's detective bit is my favorite aspect.

I didn't think she was bad looking at all although I've seen way better. Maybe they should've casted Demi Moore or Sharon Stone lol?

no it's amtoshperic , intelligent , greatly acted .. and it shoud have an 8 rating .. so take a grip would you !! ..
why can't people get that oponion differs !!!!!!!!!! and that's the point of everything .

reply

Agreed. This movie was excellent.

me too. I love this film and am a big David Warner and John Glover fan. Good story, great cast, super soundtrack and just enough of a look at the monsters to make them frightening. Too many favorite parts to count - always intrigued by Trent discovering the pattern of the cut out book covers, when Stiles crosses the bridge with nothing under the car and the color Blue are just a few. This bazaar film throws me off balance every time, especially the ending. A fun ride.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. John Carpenter is my favorite director, and as far as my favorite Carpenter film, it's a three-way tie between Halloween, The Thing, and In the Mouth of Madness...

This is a rotten way to end it!
This is not the end; you haven't read it yet.
In the Mouth of Madness

Fock ratings. This is the last of the Apocalypse Trilogy along with The Thing and Prince of Darkness and it works.

Gives you that odd sensation of everything changing in a scary way.

The script was damned clever. You can tie-in almost every horror film you've seen with this one. There are references to so much if you study it.

You more you see and read, the more you read into it. That was Cane's whole point. It works on the subconscious, subatomic level, if you like.

I totally agree - the worst "horror" movie I have ever soon.

reply

It's meant to feel that way. Since most of the movie takes place in a "poorly written book."

Fcking noobs.
