Please explain what you liked about this movie

Did you like the main character?

The bad guy?

The crazy flash forwards?

The creatures?

Just the ending?

The fact that there were no rules and things just happened Willy nilly?

I'm just trying to understand because I see a lot of praise here but I honestly can't see why. I enjoy Lovecraft so I'd love to know if you liked the movie if you're also a Lovecraft fan or if you just like the movie for itself.

First I'd suggest watching it twice, you'll get more the second time around.

If you've read any run of the mill horror novels the basic outline of the first part of the movie basically plays the stereotypes of one. Things go bump in the night, not a lot of back plot/character development, under developed female character for sexual tension.

Basically you're watching what Sutter Cain wrote because that's what he is, a hack job B grade horror writer.

All of the above I guess, plus I really like Sam Neill as a actor so thats another reason. Also just the fact I haven't seen this film in ages but thinking about it still gives me the creeps!
It's not even that any of the scenes are particularly scary, its just got a weird overall vibe.
