Darkfalz, I will have you know that no one deserves to be abused and it's not their fault. The thing is, victims of domestic violence often love their abusive spouses and are brainwashed by them. Here is the reason they may stay with their husband who abuses them:

the wife has low self-esteem, and thinks she cannot get anyone else.

The wife thinks it's her fault, maybe she didn't do something right. Even if she did do something wrong, that doesn't justify hurting her.

The wife thinks she can change her abusive husband. You cannot change your abusive husband. Your abusive husband is psychologically unstable. Nothing you do will change him-- as mentioned in the movie, it can end up in death.

Even if you are interfering in a battered woman's marriage by telling someone, that's better than ignoring it until someone ends up getting shot.
