Katie's father is a total *beep*

watching this film i was shocked by the attitude of Katie's father. a policeman goes to the house of a woman who's been clearly beaten up by her husband and he does...nothing, absoutly nothing. he's basically saying to the abuser "hay were men, it's ok to beat your wife" even him finding out about his daughters abuse and finally stepping up doesn't redeem him at all. if that woman had been killed would have have charges for neglecting his duty!

I can see where you are coming from but you can't watch things like this with a 2010 mentality. A lot of parents in the 80's and 90's were brought up in the fifties themselves [or had parents who were brought up in that time]. during that time very few women were liberated to the point of feeling comfortable wearing slacks, much less being allowed to wear them.

all this stems from where 'the woman's place' is [in the home]. notice how Kellie Martin's character didn't even fathom college? srsly, what was she doing with her life before she met him?

all the father was saying is that the husband has a right to put the wife back in her place. now, of course, he did not know the extent of 'putting in her place' he was doing to her, but that is how a majority of the husbands in this era were exposed to during their childhood. no matter what most people say, if you see something you don't like in your childhood and vow never to pull that shi5 with your kids.... you will probably pull that shi5 without knowing it.

I just had a hard time believing how naïve and stupid this cop's daughter was.

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.
