Is it just me or did anyone else find him really annoying and totally inept at his job? Firstly, when they start their undercover mission and they go to the local pubs around Shadwell to find supporters he shouts out in the middle of the street 'We'll meet back at the nick after and compare notes!'. They're in an area where Shadwell supporters are likely to be so it's hardly sensible to be shouting something like that out when anybody could be listening.

Then when they do get to pub with Shadwell supporters in it he stares them down as if they are vermin and when confronted he has no idea what to say and John ends up having to cover for them. They manage to bed themselves in at The Rock and start to become friendly with the main hooligan element of the club when that fight happens with Arsenal fans in the bar and Trev tries to arrest someone, again John has to step in and cover for him by knocking said guy out.

He grasses on the meet and makes Bob and co suspicious about the fact that there are more police undercover and they have to sniff them out. He gets drunk in The Rock, tries it on with Lynda who is the niece of one of the main men, yet again John has to help him out otherwise he probably would have been killed by Bob.

He gleefully tells some of the guys that John has a child, I think out of spite because he fancied Lynda and she clearly wasn't interested him him so he made out that John had a child and girlfriend to try and ruin any potential relationship between John and Lynda. In doing so he put John in an awkward position.

When you think about it, even though John turned into a total nutcase, if it hadn't been for John Trev probably would have ended up dead or in hospital as he was totally clueless and terrible at going undercover so to speak.
