OK,The Rock Get's Closed....BUT...

The 4 coppers covers ain't blown. The lads will move to another pub.Say the 4 coppers lose/pack in their jobs? They'll still have their "mates"....All is NOT lost.

reply

So which is it, you didn't actually watch the movie or you weren't paying attention? Their covers were blown, all WAS lost.

reply

False. Their covers would only be blown if they went on community beat in Shadwell, in which they could no longer continue their dual identity, but without the protection of the police they would soon be arrested and fired/jailed anyways.

But the OP is right, if John decided to quit and find his mates again, he could continue being a hoolie. HOWEVER, the catch 22 is that Linda knew he was a copper right from the start (hence she said she "should have turn him in to Big Bob", implying that none of them knew he was the traitor).

reply

Yes but but what about gumbo and the jar of gerkins at the end...in police custody wernt he..and the bloke with glasses has to interview him so the game would have been up...

reply

And how exactly she knew they are coppers???

reply

Maybe she's the INFORMANT who's doing this for fun. She wanted the addrenilan rush all alone. She was responsible for the previous cops being beaten up. But then again it could be the deter twist to the film. Really enjoyed it. Just as good as The Firm. Much better than later so called hooligan films.

reply

So she was a cop aswell, lol. That explains why the actions was shutted down

Bob might have noticed if his daughter had joined the police.....

Clearly Gumbo was the undercover copper, very convincing, the one you least suspect.

She clearly stated she knew they were plod as soon as she saw them, and didn't say anything because she got off on the danger. What skill set or ability she possesses to perform this feat isn't given, but her record is not in doubt. They mention how fast the police get outed at the start of the film, alluding to Bob(?) and his nose. Both the law and the yobs mention it.

reply

Whether or not their cover was blown (Linda knew they were cops for sure) it doesn't matter as the senior cops shut down their undercover operation, meaning John, Trev and the other two had NO option but to get out of Shadwell and go back to whatever policing duties they were assigned. Trev ends up at a nearby station in uniform and John either has a mental breakdown and is discharged or is assigned to another undercover operation.

All is not lost for The Rock crowd, they'll find another pub and chances are Bob will set up another pub courtesy of money he could get from his shady mates who are probably rolling in it.

All is not lost for Trev and the other two, whilst them not being able to go back to watch Shadwell ever again they knew all along that eventually their 'job' would come to an end and they'd have to go back to their 'real' lives. That being said since Gumbo see's Trev and learns he is a copper, chances are he'd go back and tell Bob and co about what had happened and theoretically it would be very easy for them to hunt Trevor down and kill/beat the *beep* out of him.

All IS lost for John when you think about it. His wife leaves him because he turns into a complete nut job, he wrecks his house and since he lost the plot at the police station when he turned up to work we can assume he lost his job too so due to having very little money his house would be gone too. He knows he can never go back to Shadwell because of the fact that Linda knew he was a copper and would likely grass him up if he dared show his face again.

Some people think the ending and what John says about being on another 'job' might be true but logically I can't imagine that would be the case. He goes to the National Front or whatever group they are because he is now addicted to violence and fighting, the only way he can feed that addiction is to join a known violent group.
