The Bullet Train Fight

Been awhile since I have seen this movie but I still remember that fight as one of the best I have ever seen. Definitely the best sword fight. Where does it rank for you guys and why?

I think the bullet train fight is Ok. The film moves along OK generally and has a good pace between action and the more story based parts. But the bullet train fight has been well beaten by a lot of other films now. In an enclosed space, I think the fight between Uma Thurman and Darly Hannah is better inside Bud's trailer in Kill Bill 2. Some of the fights in Azumi are well done for saying they are by actors and not martial arts experts. The fight at the end of Crouching Tiger between Michelle Yoeh and Ziyi Zhang is good but for me it's got to be the last half hour of Kill Bill 1 including the Crazy 88 fight and the Thurman vs Liu one at the end. It is impressive how good they are making swordfights with actors of little fighting experience now.

I agree with the OP... one of the greatest sword fight scenes ever.

While Kill Bill and Crouching tiger, etc. are entertaining, you know you are just watching a silly movie. There is a special element about the hunted that make the fights seem almost plausible. There is an authenticity about the movie that adds such a real feel.... at least in the first 2/3 of the movie.

I have always been a fan of movies that use good martial technique, more than wire stunts, acrobatics, and movie trickery. While I found Kill Bill to be enjoyable, it's more like watching a cartoon.

I'm not trying to say the Hunted is "realistic"... don't get me wrong, but it is done in a way that makes it plausible, and has a "real feel" to it.

Had the actors done lots of back flips spinning hook kicks, and ran on the walls, the movie would have lost it's credibility. The techniques and tactics demonstrated in the movie were much more real and plausible. You could almost imagine that that is what it might look like if such a story were actually played out.

This is the magic of The hunted, and why I enjoyed it so much.

I saw ninja assassin recently. Great fight scenes

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say it's one of the best action sequences of the 90's, especially considering it didn't have a big budget like a movie such as Terminator 2, etc. It's a really well-paced sequence, with a good build-up to the ninjas starting to kill everyone on board, and the samurai being a total bad-ass like you said.

i watched this movie last night on hbo, i had seen before and i remeber the train fight being the best part of the movie and it was. the main samurai dude is such a badass, i like how he kills the 1st ninja and then looks at them walks away like a badass. i still have no idea how he was able to turn so quickly and slash the throwing stars out of the air. such a badass sequence.

Silly but enjoyable film. The low budget hurt and yet that train sequence was still exceptionally shot. However with such a strong sequence early on in the film the ending cannot hope to compare.

Agreed with the OP! For me, that's one of the best scenes from the movie!

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.
