Awful

This is one of the worst movies I have ever encountered, it is no wonder Alicia Silverstone's career went nowhere. I would rather sit on broken glass naked than watch this film again.

I'm totally with you on this one! I actually just got done reading the book and was sitting in front of the TV flipping channels when I saw Jeff dead in the hospital. I thought "cool they made this into a movie!" So I sat for 15 minutes watching...Then got pissed when I saw how much it had changed from the book. OMG why cant they make a DK book into a good movie! I wish I could turn back time and get my 15 minutes back that where stolen from me. :(

My husband and I watched this last night and thought it was awful too....they had Jeff Goldblum's character show up at his anitque store with a box of information on the Vassago/Jeremy guy and never explained where he got the box full of stuff! That was just a small snippet of "bad movie-ness" in this whole film....

It showed Hatch take the box from the backseat of the detective's car in the motel parking lot.

Am I the only person that loves this movie? I think its great, I can watch it over and over again. And YES I have read the book. Yes the book is much better and they changed MANY things but I look at them as two different works. If you can manage to do that, I think you'll like this movie but thats just my opinion. The special effects didn't bother me at all, yeah they weren't the best in the world but if I judge a movie based on its visual effects than I would have to hate ALOT of movies.

Plus Jeff Goldblum rocks in any movie he does, good or bad.

reply

wow! thanks for that! i love jeff too. he is so intense! even in "the fly" he was a turn on! the movie is not bad. it's watchable, especially at 3 for $10.00>dvd bin.

No, you definitely aren't the only person who loves it. I love it! I can watch it over and over, too. It is a very enjoyable movie. Sure it's a bit cheesy and the over the top in some parts, but that's why I love it. And despite the cheesiness the actor's still did a great job. Jeremy Sisto is very alluring and creepy at the same time, which is what makes his character so scary. Jeff Goldbum is always good. I don't care if people say that he always plays himself in movies, I like it. The movie has a great soundtrack too.

I just got the book yesterday so I haven't read it yet.

I loved it.

I haven't seen the whole movie, but I'm watching the last 20 or so minutes of it right now and I don't know if I can. I just saw Alfred Molina say that he brought back his son because "he's his son". What kind of sense does that make? Why didn't you
bring back your wife or daughter who he MURDERED? Whatever.

I spent my entire childhood growing up. What a waste.

reply

This whole post is a spoiler. So, yeah...

He brought back his son because he found him as soon as he threw himself onto the knife. He was still able to save him. His wife and daughter were dead and, by the looks of it, had been for a while. They were posed and everything. There was no way he could've saved them.

Oh, ok. That explains it then. I just don't know what he(Molina) would feel guilty about though to do that. I'm pretty sure I didn't reveal anything there.

Well, I'm sure even though his son killed the rest of his family, he still loved him and so he saved him. That made him feel guilty. It also made him feel guilty that he couldn't save the his whole family and that the one he did save was the reason the rest of his family was dead. His guilt probably only worsened after his son continued killing.

This movie is definitely one of the worst movies ive ever seen.

reply

realplayer54 I think the wife and daughter had been dead much longer than his son, there's only a certain amount of time where he can resuscitate someone. It was probably too late to bring them back and his son had just died when he found him.

Hey i love this movie..i can watch it over and over again..i thought it was a good movie.

This film is mediocre at best, but I've seen much, much worse. 5/10 stars from me for the effort.

reply

Started off okay, but turned out to be shit by the end. Not the worst I've seen, but definitely poor.
