the name 'vassago'

why do they have jeremy take on this exotic sounding name of "vassago" when it really didnt even mean anything? he could have said his name was steven jones or something regular like that..i was thinking, maybe if we re-arrange the letters maybe it will mean something.....perhaps vassago was a demon or something? if so, they could have explained that....story had a good premise but it really wasnt worth the time invested to watch it. had a decent cast, too. oh well.

Vassago is the name of the demon that has hitched a ride back from hell to the real world when Jeremy is brought back to life. The same thing happens to Hatch except an angel follows him with the intention of sending the demon Vassago back to hell along with Jeremy . Both the demon and the angel don't have direct control over their "hosts" however they do influence them i.e. the pysic link. Uriel is the name of the Angel btw.

I've not seen this movie but that's how it is explained in the book.

Both Angel and Demon are supposed to exist irl, if you believe in that sort of stuff of course :P

Vassago is the name of a demon prince and Hatch took on the 'spirit' of an arch angel since jeremy went to hell and hatch to heaven..

Also, in the KMFDM song that's featured at the beginning of the movie, you can hear the name Vassago mentioned in the background of the chorus. I believe the song was recorded a few years before the movie was made.

[UPDATE]

I stand corrected. In the song it says "Yes, I do" in the background. It can easily be mistaken for saying Vassago, though.

Wasn't Vassago a "good" natured demon that helped with the discovery of hidden or lost things?

If con is the opposite of pro, wouldn't congress be the opposite of progress?
