Makeup Far Better Than the Script!

As scripts and screenplays go this is pretty weak, proving how difficult it is to base a two-hour movie on a 30 minute sitcom. BUT there is at least one redeeming factor having nothing to do with the script: the makeup.

From Herman to Lily to Grandpa, the makeup is excellent. The designers were wise NOT to attempt recreating the TV series' makeups slavishly, but rather adapting them as necessary to suit the actors' facial structures. Edward Hermann is particularly well decked out as Herman, Veronica Hamel makes a great Lily, and Robert Morse is suitably Grandpa-ish.

I'm not so enthusiastic about Eddie, probably because my dislike of the child actor's stiff, mannered performance influences my overall opinion of him, makeup included.

As a movie, "Here Come the Munsters" is a flop, but kudos to the makeup department for a job well done!

Meh it had its moments.

I think it was an imaginative reinvention, done better only by the more recent "Mockingbird Lane".
