Frank Black (Pixies) was offered this role

In the Pixies documentary, loudQUIETloud, he mentions that he was offered the lead role in this movie, but turned it down because he didn't want to play a role just beacuse he was fat enough. He said he like the movie, however.

The director probably just wanted to have "rock stars" in there, because they're not as expensive and have a built in audience. But had Pruitt Taylor Vince not done it, I wouldn't've seen it.
