The Wolf of Wall Street stole the owl joke from Heat.

The Wolf of Wall Street stole the owl joke from Heat. It feels more like a rip-off than homage. It's pretty sad how nobody remembers it from Heat, yet everyone remembers from The Wolf of Wall Street, and thinks it's original.

reply

I can't even remember it in Wolf of Wall Street.

reply

Is this joke supposed to be copyright material? Seems pretty basic to me.

reply

Wolf of Wall Street was nothing but Scorsese ripping off himself.

reply

The hot blonde told it better and she had great tits.

reply

She didn't tell it better at all. Hers seemed scripted.

reply

There are more glaring production errors worth noting about both movies than this minute detail.

reply

I didn't care for The Wolf of Wall Street, but Heat's a near-perfect film; it's an all-time great.

reply

I couldn't agree more. Whilst I don't rate HEAT quite as highly as I once did (after so many viewings), TWOWS is one of the most over-rated movies of this generation.

reply

Wolf took too long to get anywhere. Yeah, he's a selfish, hedonistic capitalist. Got it. What happens next...?

I'm a big Scorsese fan, too, so it feels weird saying that.

Heat's really underrated in my opinion. I think it should be talked about with the greats and the classics, but it's largely forgotten.

reply

I agree. To be clear- the only thing that (slightly) bugs me after a million viewings is the relationship with Edie, the graphic designer. I feel that could've been trimmed down.

Totally agree about Wolf. Good acting (at least from LD) but it didn't do much for me as a film.

reply

The acting's good. Any one scene was good...just didn't like the pacing, I guess...?

reply

What was the joke?

reply

One character asks, "Who? Who?" and the other responds, "Who? Who? What are you, a f***ing owl?"

reply

Thanks, didn't remember 😊

reply

actually Heat stole this joke from another Al Pacino movie, the criminally underrated Sea of Love. And I wouldn't be surprised if they got it from somewhere else too.

reply

crazy co-incidence, it's actually said in Sea of Love by Michael Rooker, who's also in LA Takedown, the template for this movie! There's probably a wolf of wall st connection somewhere too

reply

Isn't this like saying someone stole the chicken who crossed the road joke?

And i don't know how you ascertain that wolf of wall steeet "thinks it's original"?
