This movie is a example of why...

... I never watch some series or movies again.

They are so perfect that I'm afraid I'd start to notice the flaws if I watched them again.

Breaking Bad... Justified... have resisted all temptation to re-watch them.

I've seen this one twice, but never since. Everything about it... the cast is a collection of alpha males all at the top of their game... rich distinctive characters... What really made it for me though was Mann's A-game directing.

Watch the way he uses light in this movie -- it's brilliant. As an example, at the end, we think McCauley and Eady are going to drive off to a happy life together as they enter the bright tunnel. But, as they emerge from the tunnel in the night, everything gets dark again, and simultaneously we see De Niro's expression change as he makes the fatal decision to go back.

And did L.A. lights ever look as gorgeous at night from a balcony? I think not. They were the stars in the sky of McCauley's budding romance.

Mann's use of sound is also brilliant. When you hear the firefights, you hear the rounds zipping throught the air and pinging off objects so damn crisply. The firefight in Miami Vice is also great in that regard.

This one is in my top ten. Maybe I'll allow myself the luxury of watching this again in a few years.

Watch it now!

I know what you mean, this happens with a lot of movies and songs. If I listen to or watch them enough then they lose their magic, so I pace their appearances in my life so the magic remains.

My wife and I liked National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Scrooged when they came out at the theatres around 1990.

Then my wife insisted that we watch them EVERY Christmas. It got to the point where I would get physically nauseous at the thought of watching them again. I swear we watched each of them at least a dozen times or more... I could quote whole chunks of the dialogues from memory.

About five years ago I flat out refused to watch them anymore. She STILL watches them... I just flee the room.

Just switch to Die Hard for a few years instead, then go back to Christmas Vacation.

I 100% know what you mean. I have a few movies (and songs) that fall into that category. So perfect...I don’t want them to lose their magic.

I still have my copy of Blade Runner 2049 on blu ray unopened. Its been sat there about 2 years now and just can't bring myself to watch it and doubt i ever will..

Saw it once at cinema October 2017 and just dont want that magical mind blowing experience of seeing a no expense spared Blade Runner 2 (something I couldnt quite believe had been made even as I was watching it) for the 1st time, spoiler free, on the big screen disrupted in any way.

I noticed its flaws right ahead. Really lame movie.

I disagree, this one is easy to watch multiple times.

reply

Is it an example of why you can’t complete a fucking sentence, OP?

Heats an enjoyable flick. I wouldn’t say flawless though. Can easily be watched every few years.

Myself I dig out The Shield every 5 years and watch it.

reply

I disagree I’ve seen this several times and am always awed by it.

reply

Same. There's not a wasted moment, it's basically a flawless film.
