All the lights

The night shots in this movie are breathtaking. Put aside the great acting, interesting story, and character development. This movie's camera work is outstanding. I love the long shots and the geography of this film.

Yes they are. Without a doubt Mann’s masterful direction, and the film’s cinematography and lighting (particularly the night shots) are some of the main reasons why “Heat” is so revered. It’s a magnificent piece of work.

Just the way Mann captures the city of Angels is second to none. It’s what he does best.

One of the best shot L.A. movies... Very atmospheric... Contemporary directors should learn from Mann...

Mann should learn from Mann... and go back to film! :)

His digital efforts, while occasionally interesting, are nowhere even in the stratosphere of the beauty of HEAT

I'd love to see him shoot on film again, but I do like what he did with Blackhat, visually... I think it worked for thst story to have a digital yet cinematic look...

The camera technology probably wasn't good enough for Collateral and Miami Vice, although I like that he experimented so early...

Yeah, there are elements of it that definitely work sometimes. I actually like a lot of the visuals in Collateral. He gets some cool things out of the digital strangeness. I still prefer film, but it is interesting.
