Weird movie

Spoilers...

Just the way the characters acted toward the beginning of the movie, I guessed the punchline would be something like they were ghosts. It was a different twist on a ghost story, and it was an ok movie in my opinion.

Three of them were ghosts. The whole incest thing was kinda ick. Christina has this strange innocence about her despite everything she does.

Well, six if you count David's sister and Mrs. Mariell, but yes, wonderful movie!

Actually there are only 4 ghosts. Juliet who died at the beginning. And then the 2 guys and Christina who were burned in the house by their parents b/c one night their parents caught them doing naugthy things (Christina having sex with one of her brothers while the other was drunk).

And I laughed hard when I saw the scene when David goes to the doctors office at the end and finds Juliet there, and when Juliet asks him to stay with her and he runs away. It remembered me that time when playing Doom I ran out of ammo and this big mean monster creeped up behind me and I fled away with that monster chasing me through most of the map.

Read the posts above... 6 ghosts... if you only counted 4, you've missed a huge deal of the story.

reply

7 if you count the ghost dvid see's out on the grounds

"Welcome, fool. You have come of your own free will to the appointed place. The game's over."

reply

Not sure based on the non-specific scene description, but that is either Julia OR Mrs. Marriel. So, the number still stands at 6

reply

Hmmmmm...how many ghosts..

The 3 siblings.
The Doctor
David's Sister.
The Mother ( she's the one who led David to the lake on the property and nearly drowned him)

And that makes SIX.

reply

I disagree...the mother did not attempt to drown David; instead, I believe it was Simon or Robert who did. Most likely Robert because David argued w/ him about "riding" with Christina the scene before...

reply

I thought that Nanny Tess started the fire that killed the children. Their mother committed suicide after catching them. Am I right or wrong?

reply

Five, actually, since the house itself was really a ghost of shorts, having burned almost to the ground five years earlier.

**It's been ages since i last saw this great movie, but wernt there 4 ghosts in total? The 2 brothers and sister and the doctor.

reply

I agree, the whole incest thing was really weird... icky too... even though I normally like Kate Beckinsale and Anthony Andrews... just not together in an incestuous brother/sister relationship ewwwwww! (Though it would be interesting to see them work together again on a different sort of project - maybe in a non-romantic way).

The OP starts their post with the word "spoilers". If you haven't seen the film and see that word--DON'T READ WHAT FOLLOWS!

-This was a great movie. It included what was in the classical horror movie: a haunted mansion; a twisted family history; a sceptical investigator (Aidan character).

-The whole incest thing was the cause of them being killed (by their mother) and them turned into ghosts.

-They actually detained the nanny in the house and was driving her slowly insane as an act of revenge.

-I knew the three siblings would not be normal pple (ghosts)in particular with Kate character, because:

1) Kate character was told by the psychic she met (when she was with Aidan) that "she already knew what her fate was".

2) There was a scene when Kate character saved Aidan from drowing in the lake during the stormy weather. How would she know he was in the lake during the storm at night when it was very dark outside and it was thundery as well (noisy)?

I recommend you read the book, its quite similar but there are some changes such as:

- There is a pet dog which is pretty bad ass in the book

- David is in a sort of relationship with the woman Kate, who works with him.

- Another character who is a friend of davids called edith who is a real medium

- Also I dont know if there is an incest storyline

- The kids pretty much kill themsleves, Nanny had nothing to do with it

- No doctor

- His sister doesnt love him, she worked with the ghosts to hurt him

Great movie, but two VERY important corrections...

1) The Children were killed by the NANNY. After seeing the children commit incest, the mother killed herself.

2)The Nanny, having found the corpse of the mother, and realizing what had happened, killed the children by locking them in the room, and burning the house down. That was why the "fire" motif kept on repeating.

My FIRST indication that something was not right with the characters was when the Doctor was treating the Nanny. Her reaction was SO over-the-top, I knew that there was something not right. The second clue was when they were playing "Hide and Seek", and were dancing around in the costumes. Nanny looked PETRIFIED. It, coincidentally is the only time in the movie ( I think), where everyone is in the same room together.
