H20 is an infinitely superior movie. With that said, I can kinda see what the OP is saying. H20 is satisfying overall and Jamie’s return elevates the movie, but I always thought it lacked something. For one thing, the opening has Halloween written all over it (the feel of the original and Halloween season), whereas the rest of the movie doesn’t. That’s not a major issue but it would’ve been perfect if the rest of the movie had carried that tone. And the Scream influence? While it does not bring the film down, it feels “improper.” Idk, it’s thoroughly entertaining but it does feel rushed by the end, so it perhaps needed to be more subtle like the original.
When it comes to Curse of Michael Myers, it has its issues (editing for the most part), but to my mind it works better as a Halloween movie with its atmosphere, pace, story (not the biggest fan of the cult worshipping stuff but it works for this installment), and above all Michael’s portrayal which is darker and more vicious than ever. In any event, H20 is a very fine film in its own right and certainly isn’t as flawed as Curse of Michael Myers. Yes, I also don’t mind that it ignores 4-6 because as much as I appreciate them, H20 picks up with a less ridiculous storyline. Though I will say both had impactful endings (Producer’s Cut aside).
